TORONTO, April 25, 2011 — The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame (CMHF) has issued its yearly call for nominations that will lead to the induction of a new group of individuals in January 2012.
Candidates for induction into the CMHF must be individuals who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievements to the benefit of the Canadian and/or world mineral industry. Whether the benefit is to the Canadian and/or world mineral industry, there must have been a flow-back of significant benefit to Canada.
Anyone may nominate a candidate. However, nominations must be channelled through Sponsoring Organizations or Associate Sponsoring Organizations of the CMHF. Sponsors include the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum, the Mining Association of Canada, The Northern Miner and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. Associate sponsors include the British Columbia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan mining associations and the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia.
June 1, 2011, is the recommended deadline for contacting a sponsoring organization about submitting a nomination.
June 30, 2011, is the deadline for delivering nominating material to the sponsoring organization for review.
July 20, 2011, is the deadline for the sponsoring organization to submit the nomination.
Nominations must include the specific information described in the CMHF’s Nomination Guidelines. The Guidelines and the Criteria for Selection are available at https://mininghalloffame.ca/nominate/nomination_guidelines.
The next group of CMHF inductees will be honoured at a dinner to be held in Toronto on January 12, 2012. They will join the 150 remarkable achievers who have been inducted since the 1989 inception of the CMHF.
The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame currently features its inductees at four locations; the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), Toronto; the University of Toronto’s Mining Building at 170 College Street, Toronto, for those inducted from 1989 to 2008; the Nuclear and Mining Museum in the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre in Elliot Lake in northern Ontario and the Britannia Mine Museum at Britannia Beach, B.C.
