Canadian Mining Hall of Fame to Enshrine Four New Members in 2026

Toronto, September 29, 2025. The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame announces that four industry leaders will be inducted for their lasting contributions to mineral exploration and mining in Canada and around the world. The Canadian Mining Hall of Fame will welcome the four new members at the annual Canadian Mining Hall of Fame Dinner and Induction Ceremony on January 8, 2026, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. About the 2026 Inductees

David Harquail

David Harquail is recognized for strategic thinking, steady leadership, and principled business practices. His approach has elevated the organizations he has led and influenced the culture and direction of global mining. Source: CMHF press release.

As former CEO and present Chair of the Board of Franco Nevada, he oversaw significant value creation. He led the initial public offering that raised 1.2 billion dollars, at the time the largest mining IPO in Canadian history. The company’s value appreciated to a market capitalization of more than 50 billion dollars and dividend increases paid out almost 4 billion dollars to shareholders. Source: CMHF press release.

His career began in consulting, banking, and corporate development. In 1987 he joined Seymour Schulich and Pierre Lassonde at Beutel, Goodman and Company, while also serving as CEO of Redstone Resources. After the merger of Franco Nevada with Newmont Mining and Normandy in 2002, he relocated to Denver to lead Newmont Capital and later served as Executive Vice President. He has been an active volunteer for CIM, a director at PDAC, Chair of the World Gold Council, and a member of the OSC and TSX Mining Standards Task Force that called for creation of the NI 43 101 standards. Source: CMHF press release.

His philanthropic legacy includes more than 30 million dollars in charitable commitments through his family foundation. Major gifts include the Harquail Centre for Neuromodulation at Sunnybrook Health Sciences in Toronto, and a landmark gift to the Harquail School of Earth Sciences and the Mineral Exploration Research Centre at Laurentian University. Don Lindsay

Don Lindsay is widely respected for strategic vision, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to social and environmental responsibility. As President and CEO of Teck Resources Limited, he guided the company through major economic cycles while keeping sustainability and community at the heart of its growth. Source: CMHF press release.

Earlier as President of CIBC World Markets, he pioneered Canada’s first mining focused investment banking group, reshaping how the financial sector supports the resource industry and positioning CIBC as a global leader in mining finance. Source: CMHF press release.

When he took the helm at Teck in 2005, the company was valued at 8 billion dollars. Under his leadership, Teck grew to a market capitalization of 22 billion dollars and returned nearly 9 billion dollars to shareholders. Source: CMHF press release.

He advanced ESG performance through initiatives such as the Zinc Alliance for Child Health and Copper and Health, programs that have reached more than 140 million people globally and influenced public health and infrastructure policy. Source: CMHF press release.

As Chair of ICMM, he helped spearhead the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management, raising the safety and quality of tailings management across the industry. He has chaired the International Zinc Association, the Business Council of Canada, and the Board of Governors for the World Economic Forum mining and metals sub group. He also served as Chair for the 2025 Invictus Games and led major philanthropic efforts, including a 200 million dollar campaign for BC Children’s Hospital. He has received the Order of British Columbia, multiple honorary doctorates, and lifetime achievement awards. Source: CMHF press release.

Catherine McLeod Seltzer

Catherine McLeod Seltzer is one of Canada’s most influential leaders in international mining and exploration, known for vision, leadership, and results. Source: CMHF press release.

Born into a multi generational mining family, she began at Yorkton Securities and in 1991 moved to the Santiago, Chile office, starting her long standing involvement in South American projects. There she met geologist David Lowell and co founded Arequipa Resources, serving as CEO at age 32. Arequipa discovered the Pierina gold deposit in Peru and was later sold to Barrick Gold for 1.1 billion dollars in 1996. Source: CMHF press release.

Across her career she has raised more than 750 million dollars in exploration capital and helped build and sell companies valued at more than 4 billion dollars, including Francisco Gold, Peru Copper, and Miramar Mining. With partner Eira Thomas she co founded Stornoway Diamond Corporation, which developed Quebec’s first diamond mine, and later co founded Lucara Diamond Corporation with Lukas Lundin. She has served as Chair of Bear Creek Mining, leading community forward projects in Peru and Mexico. She joined the board of Kinross Gold in 2005, became Independent Chair in 2019, and later joined the board of Teck. Source: CMHF press release.

Her philanthropy includes service with the Union Gospel Mission, The Fraser Institute, and BC Children’s Hospital. Honors include Canada’s Most Powerful Women by the Women’s Executive Network, Mining Person of the Year by The Northern Miner, the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining list, and the Award for Significant Board Contribution from the Association of Women in Finance. Gordon Garfield Morrison

Gordon Garfield Morrison is a leading Canadian exploration figure whose work reshaped understanding of mineral discovery in the Sudbury Basin and beyond. Source: CMHF press release.

Early in his career at Inco he combined rigorous geological analysis with emerging technologies, leading to a wave of discoveries in the Sudbury Basin during a period when the region was considered geologically exhausted. Source: CMHF press release.

His exploration leadership has led to 17 major mineral discoveries under the banners of Inco and later FNX Mining. Of these, nine advanced into full production and three into partial development.
